This drawing was excecuted in pen and ink wash. A woman with drooped shoulders and a sad face is centered in the compstiton. Behind her a crowd is gathered. West focuses the drawing to the center by depicting the crowd with decreasing detail as they are further from the woman. This drawing is undated.

This drawing is one of a small collection of drawings created by American-born artist Benjamin West (1738-1820) during his career in London (circa 1765-1819).
