Image: 1/6 plate; Girl seated at a posing table with a book on it, dressed in a dress with a horizontal shoulder-baring neckline and short sleeves, with a plain waist of the early-fifties style, the skirt pleated at the waistline so it is full, wearing white knit stockings with laced shoes. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Double elliptical with matte surface (mid 1840s - mid 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood-framed half-case embossed with a geometric design, with a red velvet pinchpad (1850-1860s).
