Image: 1/6 plate; Half portrait of a man with hair parted at the side and combed into a high puff at the forehead, with long sideburns, dressed in a dark jacket and vest, with a white shirt and collar with points turned down, and a dark bow tie, color applied to his cheeks and lips. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with a gilded edge trim on interior, red velvet pinchpad, and a green velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (1850s).
