Image Description:
Image: 1/4 plate; Group of five young men, all with hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, two standing (one holding what may be a daguerreotype case and the other a closed book in their hands) and three seated (holding an open book across the lap of the middle figure), all dressed in dark jackets and vests, with white shirts and bow ties, and badges on their lapels, with color applied to their cheeks and badges.
Preserver: Straight and embossed with simple pattern (after 1850).
Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s).
Case: Thermoplastic with scarce geometric design (Berg No. 3-32), with red velvet pinchpad, and ruby red velvet cushion embossed with geometric design.
