Image: 1/4 plate; Seated man with one arm resting on cloth-covered posing table, wearing a checked jacket, dark vest and white shirt with collar points up, a dark silk kerchief tie, and a ring on his finger. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with sandy finish (late 1840s). Case: Half case, paper-covered wood-frame embossed with floral design (a larger variation of Berg No. 5-94), with red velvet pinchpad (1850-60s).
