Image Description:
Image: Seated woman dressed in a long-sleeved garment with a white fur wrap, wearing a white daycap set back on the head, hair parted in the center, wide blue ribbons down her front, and black gloves, color applied to her eyes, cheeks, lips, ribbons, and gloves. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards). Case: Plain (unembossed) leather-covered wood-frame with push-button fastener and metal hinges, plum pinchpad and plain (unembossed) purple velvet cushion (circa 1850).
