Image: 1/2 plate; Seated woman, with hair parted in the center falling from ears to shoulders in ringlets, with arm resting on cloth-covered posing table, wearing a long-sleeved dark dress with white collar and cuffs, with a patterned shawl wrapped around her forearms, black leather gloves on her hands, a brooch at her throat, and a chain or watch fob hanging over her chest. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed wtih a floral and butterfly design on the front only, with a plain (unembossed) back, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with the photographer's studio name and address (late 1840s-50).
