Image: 1/2 plate; Seated woman with hair parted in the center and covering her ears, wearing a long-sleeved dark dress that appears to open in the front, with a white collar and cuffs, a dark shawl with a patterned edge wrapped around her arms, black leather gloves on her hands, and a pencil or watch cord around her neck. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Octagonal with sandy finish (late 1840s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design on the front only, with a plain (unembossed) back, an eggplant purple pinchpad and cushion embossed with the photographer's studio name and address (1846-49).
