A metal worker throws a 1790s hot cake griddle into an incinerator to be melted into a 75mm armor piercing shell. The owner of the griddle Mrs. Margaret Dodson of Trucksville, Pennsylvania, pictured right, donated the item to support in the war effort during the early stages of World War II.
During World War II, Americans donated vast amounts of metals across the country to aid in the overall war effort to create various machineries, weapons, and ammunition. Their efforts and donations were merged to create objects such as the 75mm armor piercing shells utilized on Lee and Sherman tanks.
