Inscription:
(pencil on paper): from Simon Gratz / 1. 25. 1912 (ink on paper): Geo. M. Dallas / This Daguerreotype was taken by / England & Gunn at South East Corne[r] / of 5th & Chestnut Streets in 1848. / The Daguerreotype is taken on a Silvered / Copper plate, the silver is polished to the / utmost extent possible (of course pure silver) / then goes through the various Chemical / processes and then is exposed in the / camera and several other processes gone / through with before the picture is develop- / ed; the last process is a Coating of Gold / So that the picture is between Gold & Silver / John Shreeve / 123 Fairmount Ave (Inscription found on the back of the original case)
