Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Seated woman with arm resting on a cloth-covered posing table, hand upon her cheek, displaying an open cased photograph in her other hand, her hair parted in the center in a padded wings style that covers the ears, wearing a lighter skirt and darker bodice with bishop sleeves and a wide whitework collar with a small gilded brooch at her throat, color applied to her cheeks, and gilding to a ring on her raised hand. Preserver: Straight and embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a grapes and leaves design on both the front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (ca. 1850).
