Image Description:
Image: Full plate; Head and shoulders of a girl, with hair parted in the center and falling in ringlet over the ears and down to her shoulders, wearing a black dress with two buttons on the chest, a flat white collar that does not meet at the front, s large red and gold brooch clasped at her throat and a narrow black band about her head, color applied throughout. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a simple lined design both front and back, with a lavender purple pinchpad, and a plum colored velvet cushion embossed with the studio name and address (ca. 1850).
