Image: 1/6 plate; Seated man and woman, man wearing dark jacket with a wide lapel, vest, pants, and tie with a white shirt, the woman with hair parted in the center and covering her ears, wearing a long-sleeved dress made of pattern printed fabric, cinched at the waist with a belt, and a high white collar with a brooch at her throat, the brooch and belt buckle both with applied gilding. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Elliptical with pebbled finish (1839- mid 1840s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a variation of Pretlove's common "The Delicate Roses, Variant" [Plate 123 p.117 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the front, and the common "The Delicate Roses, Variant" [Plate 125 p.118 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the back, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a rose red silk cushion (1844-47).
