Image: 1/2 plate; Two seated adults and four standing children; Seated man with hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, wearing a dark jacket and vest, with lighter pants, a white shirt, and dark bow tie, collar upturned, one hand resting on his crossed leg; Seated woman with hair parted slightly off-center and covering most of the ears, wearing a dark long-sleeved dress with belled sleeves with darker trim, whitework undersleeves and wide whitework collar clasped at the throat with a small brooch, a ring on one finger, with a paisley pattern printed shawl wrapped around her shounders, her hands clasped in her lap; Younger standing girl with hair parted in the center and smoothed behind the ears, wearing a short-sleeved pattern printed dress, a bracelet on one wrist, one hand at her waist, the other on the seated man's shoulder; Younger standing boy with hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, wearing a dark jacket and a white collar, one elbow propped on the seated man's shoulder with his hand by his face; Older standing young man with hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, wearing a dark jacket and vest, white shirt with upturned collar and a dark bow tie, a dark watch cord attached to his vest, one hand propped up by his face, the other resting on the older standing young woman's shoulder; Older standing young woman hair parted in the center and partially covering the ears, with a dark ribbon showing from behind, wearing a dark short basque bodice, buttoned at the front, with long belled sleeves, white undersleeves and a small whitework collar, and a pattern printed skirt, a bracelet on one wrist and a ring on one finger, one hand at her waist, the other propped on the seated woman's shoulder; color applied to all their faces as well as many of their hands. Preserver: Stiff & heavy, more golden (1847-50). Mat: Double elliptical, with matte finish (1850). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with interior gilded edge trim, red velvet pinchpad and cherry red velvet cushion embossed with a floral and butterfly design (ca. 1850).
