Image Description:
Image: 1/4 plate; Seated child with hair parted in the center and falling in loose waves around the face to her shoulders, wearing a pattern printed dress with a grow-tuck near the hem, and a white pinafore with matching patterned epaulettes, white stockings and dark shoes with straps, color applied to his or her cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a geometric design on the front only, with an interior gilded edge trim, an eggplant purple pinchpad, and a ruby red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (ca. 1850).
