Image: 1/6 plate Cutting ambrotype; Head and shoulders of a young man, his hair parted on one side, wearing a dark jacket with a high back collar, a white shirt with a turned down collar, and a dark moiré silk tie, color applied to his cheeks and mouth. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850).
