Image: 1/6 plate; Seated woman with elbow resting on cloth-covered posing table, hand resting against her face, hair parted in the center with a strip pulled back from the forehead, and the sides curled down covering the ears, wearing a black dress with sleeves to mid-forearm, with white undersleeves cuffed at each wrist with black ribbons, a white chemise with standing collar wrapped with a matching black neck ribbon, a gilded brooch clasped at her throat, gilded drop earrings, and a gilded band on the wrist ribbon of the hand resting on her lap, color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: [none].
