Image: 1/9 plate; Head and shoulders of a man wearing a dark jacket, vest and tie, and a white shirt with a large turned down collar with rounded points, curly hair parted on one side with loose curls on the sides covering large turned out ears. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a floral design (1850s).
