Image Description:
Image: 1/4 plate; Head and shoulders of a man with hair parted on one side and puffed over the forehead, wearing a dark jacket, vest and tie, with a white shirt, collar points upturned. Preserver: Stiff & heavy, more golden (1847-50). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a simple lined pattern on the exterior, with a gilded edge trim on the interior, a red velvet pinchpad, and a ruby red velvet plain (unembossed) cushion (ca. 1849).
