Image: 1/6 plate; Seated man with arm resting on table, hair parted on one side, wearing a dark jacket and double breasted vest, with a white shirt and tie, collar points turned down. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a common Thistle Motif [Plate 119 on page 115 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (ca. 1850).
