Image: 1/6 plate; Young girl standing with arm propped on cloth-covered posing table adorned with a book, hair parted in the center and covering the ears with ringlets, wearing a short-sleeved striped dress with ribbons at the shoulders, white stockings, with the lace edge of petticoat seen beneath the hem of the dress. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a floral design on the front, and a scarce geometric design (Berg No. 5-81) on the back, with an interior gilded edge trim, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (ca. 1850).
