Louis Antoine Godey (1804-1878) began publishing Godey’s Lady’s Book in In Philadelphia in 1830. Issues included articles and plates on fashion, handcrafts, health, and recipes, to name a few key topics. (1) illustrations of two ladies' caps and two chemisettes (page 164); (2) illustrations of a lace chemisette, bretelles and sleeves, and a basque. (page 66); (3) illustrations of bretelles, a breakfast cap, chemisette and undersleeve intended for travel (unnumbered page between pages 288 and 292); (4) illustrations of two bonnets and a muslin basquine in the form of bretelles (page 357); (5) illustrations of a habit shirt, an undersleeve for winter, and corners for pocket handkerchiefs (page 547)
