The illustration is untitled, but the copy indicates it is in reference to the Fourteenth Amendment.  The unknown author notes the irony "that Amercan civilization should have the Negro to thank for the architecture of its industry under law." The text is accompanied by an illustration of a serious African American man who is sitting on a woodpile.  His left elbow is on his knee, and he rests his face in his left hand.  The illustration was signed by Ervine Metzl.
