Image Description:

A series of five advertisements for Aunt Jemima products in issues of Collier's from December 16, 1939 to December 13, 1941.  Each advertisement is formatted to resemble a comic strip, although the December 16, 1939 ad uses photographs rather than drawings.  All the advertisements feature an inset of a smiling African American cook.

1) In this image, Aunt Jemima's face is ringed with cotton bolls and she says, "Thrill yo' appetite wif my 'Down South' treat."

2) The copy focuses on the health and monetary benefits of Aunt Jemima pancakes.  It includes a sample menu.

3.  The third image shows a family rushing to the table for Aunt Jemima pancakes.  The header reads, "Here's a happy way to start de day...Aunt Jemima Pancakes!" It includes a sample menu. 

4)  In the header for this advertisement, a caucasian boy holds a forkful of pancake up to his smiling mouth as he looks at Aunt Jemima.  She says, "I'se in town honey!  Happy days is here! Time fo' dee-locious Aunt Jemima's, made with my secret recipe, ready mixed fo' you!"  The ad also features a family member dressed in Navy blues.

5.  In this image, Aunt Jemima is in the middle panel and says, "Hooray Time fo that feast of feasts, tangy, Ol'-time buckwhewats!"  The ad includes a "plantation style" breakfast menu.
