This digital record contains five images that depict the complete May 24, 1794 edition of The Philadelphia Gazette and Universal Daily Advertiser, which contains a runaway notice for Oney Judge [c. 1773- who "absconded from the household of the President of the United States." Judge escaped from George Washington's temporary residence in Philadelphia and lived out her days as a fugitive slave in New Hampshire. More is known about her than any other of the Mount Vernon slaves, because she was twice interviewed by abolitionist newspapers in the mid-1840s.
