Biography: "An astronomer and mathematician, Ezra Otis Kendall was professor of theoretical mathematics and astronomy at Philadelphia Central High School from 1838 to 1851. In 1855 he joined the faculty of teh University of Pennsylvania, where he remained until his death (see Clark A. Elliott, 'Biographical Dictionary of American Science' [Westport, Conn., and London, 1979], p. 145, and 'The National Cyclopedia of American Biography', vol. 2 [New York, 1921], p. 415).
