Biography:
Opened in 1829, Eastern State Penitentiary was world-renowned for its wagon-wheel, or "radial" floor plan and efforts to to change the behavior of inmates through "confinement in solitude with labor." Over its 142-year history, Eastern State was home to several notorious criminals, including Al Capone and Willie Sutton.
