Biography:

The Societatea Banateana-Vasile Alecsandri was founded in 1906 by immigrants from the province of Banat in southwestern Romania, as a beneficial and cultural organization. Originally located in Northern Liberties, the society moved to Elkins Park around 1965, and in 1993 opened a museum there, in a room of the Descent of the Holy Spirit Romanian Orthodox Church. The museum displays photographs, documents, publications, costumes, and other artifacts that document Romanian American culture and the society's history. The society also sponsors social and cultural events.
