Biography:
The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist terror group based in the United States. It first developed in the post-civil war South, during reconstruction.  In 1866 the organization began as a social club for confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee, and its aim was to reinstate white supremacy over the newly emancipated blacks.  Members of the Klan dressed in robes and sheets so that they wouldn’t be recognized by federal troops.  Klan members whipped and killed blacks during nighttime raids and helped reinstate white rule in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia between 1860 and 1870. After World War I the Klan emerged again, in reaction to a new wave of immigration and the migration of black Americans to northern cities.
