Biography:
Louis Prang (1824-1909) was a German-born entrepreneur and chromolithographer who was born in Breslau (now Poland). Prang became involved in revolutionary activity against the Prussian government in 1848 and immigrated to the United States in 1850. He was a wood engraver and founded a lithograph and copper plate manufacturing company, Prang and Mayer, with business partner Julius Mayer. In 1860, Mayer left the business and Prang formed L. Prang & Co. The company printed business cards, announcements, and maps.
