Biography:

Born in Philadelphia, PA on 20 June 1832 moved to England with his wife and child in May 1866.  Played the Olympic Theatre off the Strand, London – as Othello.  Smith had twelve major roles, most being white parts and is said to have spent 12 months 1866-7 appearing in 29 locations. He settled down in Sheffield, where he died at home on 22 March 1882.
