Biography:
Lahrer Hinkender Bote is a folk calendar from the city of Lahr / Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg.  The content consists of the calendar , information on days of remembrance, planting and sowing dates, farming practices, pollen count, country-living-related contributions and stories (partly in Alemannic dialect), as well as photos and drawings.  Each year's publication has a theme.  The calendar first appeared in 1800 and carries the eponymous war veteran with a lower leg prosthesis on the cover.  The current version comes from the graphic artist Philipp Jakob Kauffmann, who came to Lahr in 1818 and whose revised version was first published in 1825.  As part of a revision in 1850, a railway was added. In addition, the pictured steamship replaced a sailing ship.  On a tombstone in the lower left corner the artist left his surname.  The writer Albert Bürklin (1816-1890) was the editor of the calendar for almost twenty years.  The Lahrer Hinkende Bote was published by Verlag Moritz Schauenburg, Lahr, from 2001 to 2010 by Verlag Ernst Kaufmann, Lahr, since the 2011 edition of the Silberburg-Verlag from Tübingen and Baden-Baden.
