1863 diary of Jacob Stouffer (1808-1880), a descendant of Swiss immigrants who moved to Pennsylvania in the early 18th century and established Falling Spring Mill in Guilford Township, Franklin County.  Stouffer's diaries, which span 1843 to 1880, tell the story of an American family living in central Pennsylvania throughout the mid-nineteenth century and describe work done on the Stouffer farm, daily weather conditions and short passages about the Civil War, especially the Battle of Gettysburg.
