Image Description:
Cassius Marcellus Clay was a 19th century emancipationist and politician from Kentucky.  He wrote Slavery--The Evil--The Remedy, exploring the ways slavery was detrimental not only to the enslaved but to all segments of the American population.  As an emancipationist, Clay did not believe slavery should be abolished by legislative acts but by "voluntary consent of the masters."
