In 1855, Philadelphians witnessed many important events, including Jane Johnson's fugitive slave case, the crash on Camden Amboy railroad, the explosion of the steamship "John Stevens." These events, and more, are depicted in this political cartoon, summing up the "Follies of the Age."

This is a crayon lithograph.  It is a conglomerate image including (among other things) a whittling Yankee, a Bowery B'hoy, and a man wanting to aid an African American woman to escape.
