Hand-written, hand-colored and hand-drawn Irish music book in black, blue, red, and yellow ink, 19 pages.
Explains musical solfege/notation on first seven pages (duration, pitch, clefs, flats, sharps, scales, voices). Page eight shows a drawing of "The Hand Gamut Or Scale of Musick, by John Anderson." The two following pages (9-10) are dedicated to each 4 measures of tenor and bass lines (French and York). The book concludes with 4-measure-long tunes, one per page, entitled: London, Dundee, Elgin, Martyrs, Dublin, Abbey, Davids, Newtown, and Marys. All except the Marys tune are for two voices. In the last tune (Marys) the key-indicating clef (sharp) occurs on the fourth line (noted here because the image does not show it).

In 1793 when Samuel Harkness a native of County Down, Ireland emigrated to America from Bally Bay, Monaghan County, he brought this music book penned for him by his vocal teacher John Anderson. Samuel lived a few years in Germantown, Pennsylvania then moved to Newcastle County Delaware.
