Known officially as the 67th New York Infantry, the First Long Island Volunteers were raised in Brooklyn in 1861. The recruits were predominantly Irish-born.Edmund K. Russell became commanding officer of Companky K in 1863 as 1st Lieutenant, he was eventually promoted to Captian and then he finished the war as a Major.
This digital record contains forty-four images of twenty-two letters sent from the Quatermaster General's Office to Edmund K. Russell during and just after the Civil War. The letters mostly concern property returns.This record pulls from folders 2 (titled as, "Millitary: Long Island Volunteers, 1st Regiment, Co.
