Image Description:
Known officially as the 67th New York Infantry, the First Long Island Volunteers were raised in Brooklyn in 1861. The recruits were predominantly Irish-born.

All of these documents were addressed to Edmund K. Russell, who became commanding officer of Companky K in 1863 as 1st Lieutenant. He was eventually promoted to Captian and later finished the war as a Major. These letters are largely about property returns concerning the deceased and deserters.

This digital record contains sixteen images that depict eight items pulled from folders 2 (titled as, "Millitary: Long Island Volunteers, 1st Regiment, Co. K -- Returns, etc., 1863-64"). These selected images represent all Ordinance Office correspondence to Edmund K. Russel and Company K held in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania Civil War papers.
