Portrait of Jacob C. White, Jr. [1837-1902].  From the Leon Gardiner collection of American Negro Historical Society records [0008].  A Black educator and close friend of Octavius V. Catto, White was the principal of the Robert Vaux school for 40 years.  He was a founder of the city’s first Black baseball club, the Pythians, and the first president of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Hospital.
