This digital record contains 21 images that depict 6 selected documents from folder 17 of box 5 of the Vaux family papers. Folder 17 is labeled as, "Roberts Vaux / Miscellaneous- Charitable Organizations - Education - 1805-1833, n.d." and contains nine additional manuscript documents and one print document which are not currently digitized.These documents all relate to charitable educational organizations that Roberts Vaux participated in. Roberts Vaux [1786-1836] was born to a prominent Quaker family and worked as a lawyer, jurist, abolitionist, and philanthropist. He helped found the Pennsylvania Institution for the Deaf and Dumb and the School for the Blind. He also was a member of the Pennsylvania Society for the Promotion of Common Schools and held the first presidency of the board of public schools of Philadelphia.
