This digital record contains images that depict an edition of the Grand Army Scout and Soldiers Mail, "a weekly paper devoted to the interests of the Grand Army of the Republic and the National Guard of the country." The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization comprised of men who had served in the Union forces during the Civil War. The GAR served as a social and advocacy organization for veterans. It survived into the twentieth century, and its legacy was carried on by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. This digital record also contains a close-up of an article by Harrison A. Tripp concerning Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson at the Battle of Cedar Mountain.
