Image Description:
This is an advertisement poster from 1899 for bicycles manufactured by Georges Richard, a famous French bicycle and automobile company. The poster, drawn by Eugène Samuel Grasset, a Swiss Art Nouveau artist, features a red-haired woman in modern dress holding a giant four-leaf clover. It is possible that Alphonse Mucha, the Czech artist known for his distinct Art Nouveau style, utilized the image during his lecture and exhibition for the Plastic Club in 1906. Mucha’s poster of actress Sarah Bernhardt, which made him famous, was inspired by a lithograph by Grasset.
