Image Description:
Two-story mansion built into a small hill; the front of the house is painted a smooth white while the side appears to be constructed of stone. The house has a large front porch with Greek-style columns, and green shutters on the second-story windows. The house is surrounded by grassy open areas and hills.
Inscription:
Belville. A neat stone mansion on the east bank of the Schuylkill. Built by Chief Justice Shippen & occupied by him. (it was the first house N.E. of Rockland distant 1060 feet & from Log lane at a right angle 620 feet. House 45 by 30 feet 6 inches.) for many years, he married a daughter of Edward Burd. The property had belonged to Joseph Galloway and upon his attainder for Treason was confiscated and sold, or at least his life Estate, it latterly became the property (Front Bottom)
