Solitude. Situate on the west side of the Schuylkill between Lemon Hill and Sedgely was built by Mr. John Penn cousin to the Hon. John Penn of Lansdowne. Poet, and grandson of the Founder in 1785, Granville John Penn, Great grandson of the Founder was last owner, from whom the City became possessed. Sketched on the spot by D.J. Kennedy 1869.
