Steamer Essen. This Vessel visited Philadelphia after the close of the Centennial Exposition to convey home the "Krupp Cannon", It was put on board Jan'y 8. 1877. A telegraph was received at New York dated Paris, France. June 23rd, 1877. The Steamer Essen with the Krupp Gun on board from Philadelphia for Russia, foundered near the Island of Oessel off the west coast of Russia Baltic Sea. Sketched Jan'y 8 / 77 by D.J. Kennedy.
