Photograph of Dr. Ruth Patrick with a microscope.  Patrick was a botanist and pioneer in studying the health of freshwater streams and rivers configuring measurements of the health of water ecosystems.  She was largely associated with her work at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
