Image: 1/6 plate; On purple ruby glass; seated woman and man with color applied to their cheeks; Woman's hair parted smoothly in the center with little crimped ringlets that fall low behind the ears, dress buttons down front, with wide sleeves, lace collar, and she's wearing fingerless lace gloves; Man wears jacket and vest, full beard and curly hair. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Unusually-shaped (ornate oval) with matte finish with embossed ornamentation. Case: Paper-covered wood-frame with embossed floral design, and gilded interior, with red velvet pinchpad, red velvet cushion embossed with rare floral and bird design (1850-60s).
