Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Head and shoulders of a man wearing a jacket, with a slim tie, turned down collar, color applied to cheeks and lips. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Paper-covered, wood-frame embossed with a common "The Romanesque Urn" design [Plate 141 page 126 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a floral design (1850s-60s).
