Image: 1/6 plate; Head and shoulders of a man wearing a jacket with a high collar, a vest, tie, and upturned collar, with color applied to his cheeks and lips. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with common "The Romanesque Urn" design [Plate 141, p.126 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on both sides, with gilded pattern on interior, red velvet pinchpad and eggplant velvet cushion with floral embossed design (1850-60s).
