Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Postmortem of a child lying with eyes shut surrounded by different fabric. Preserver: Stiff & heavy, more golden (1847-50). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a common "Lily and Rose" design [Plate 114 page 113 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] design on both sides, with gilded pattern on the interior, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a ruby velvet cushion embossed with a very rare floral and geometric design with two cherub figures (ca.1850).
